Fire & Rescue NSW. Station 18 – Glebe

The current Glebe Fire Station was built in 1905 and opened in 1906. It initially opened with volunteer firefighters, with full time staff in 1911 following the Fire Brigades Act 1909 and new Board of Fire Commissioners. The station is on the State Heritage Register

In current times, the station is home to a Pumper and an Aerial appliance. A spare aerial appliance is normally housed at the station also.

Served at Glebe as Pumper 18. After being replaced by a new Scania Pumper, this appliance was retro-fitted with a CAFS (Compressed air foam system) utillity and trialled at a number of stations including 64 Lakemba and 46 Sutherland.

FRNSW CAFS Prototype PumperFRNSW CAFS Prototype Pumper. The former Stn18 Glebe Pumper had Compressed Air Foam System added as a trial. The system produces a very good foam that is effective in a variety of situations, particularly with limited water use.
