Fire Station MFB Melbourne Victoria

MFB Melbourne – FS2 West Melbourne

The current West Melbourne Fire Station in Batman Street opened in August 1964, replacing the 1919 station in William Street.

The Station is located within Central District (based at FS1 Eastern Hill) and operates 2 Pumpers.

At last check, pumpers assigned to FS 2 were:
MFB Car 63, a Mark 5 Scania
MFB Car 37, a Mark 5 Scania – seen in this post sporting a ‘Mo’ for movember: MFB Car 037 at FS2

It’s spent most of its life as Pumper 12 and more recently a Reserve Pool appliance.

This vehicle is signed with a dedication to L Lavelle, Chief Fire Officer 1982-1988

Car 37 is a Mills Tui built Mark 5 Pumper. It’s been assigned to FS 2 West Melbourne since commissioning in 2009.

Photographed here in 2014, it was participating in the Men’s health charity organisation and event ‘Movember’. Quite the dapper Mo.

This tanker was constructed as a prototype, with another prototype on MAN cab chassis at the same time. It spent some time touring differenet areas for demonstration, before eventually being allocated to Melton Fire Brigade.

Firefighting features include a 4000 Litre tank, protection spray systems, plumbed monitor rises in crew deck area. The most unique feature is perhaps the rear crew door which gives direct access between the rear of the cab and crew deck area.

This appliance was commissioned late in December 2008 at Melton Fire Brigade, replacing an Isuzu Rescue appliance which was due to be reallocated to Monbulk Fire Brigade. It was built by SEM Fire & Rescue

MFB Car 301 was last seen in private ownership after being decommissioned in 2003. While in service, it served at stations 25 and 34, before finishing in the reserve pool.

This Scania Pumper was the first ‘Mark 5’ Pumper built for MFB, by Skilled/SEM in 2001. It was commissioned in 2002 and served at 35 Windsor Fire Station as photographed below. It went on to serve at a number of other Melbourne fire stations and was last known to be a training appliance.

In MFB tradition, this appliance shows a dedication to an MFB officer, with Car001 dedicated to Alan Richards, Chief Fire Officer 2000 – 2002
