WA Fire & Rescue – UT79 – Hino 2.4 Urban Tanker

Service – Fire & Rescue Service of WA
Appliance type – Urban Tanker
Fleet number – UT79
Cab Chassis – Hino
Body Builder – South West Fire Units
Registration – 1QBE142

UT79 was the first of a new version of the Urban Tanker for Career stations, to replace the aging Medium Tanker builds. It was based on existing 2.4 and 3.4 designs with additional modifications in consultation with firefighters due to the unique role that these tankers perform. The metro career Urban Tankers are staffed by 2 firefighters and have a key role in attacking bush fires in the metro area working with Pumpers and Light Tankers. Features such as a rear deck with monitor mounts, pump controls and communications to the driver as well as a ‘dead reel’ enable the crew of 2 to work efficiently.

The photographs captured were taken during a familiarisation session with firefighters before the appliance was assigned to a station.

WA Fire & Rescue – UP01 – Scania Urban Pumper

Service – Fire & Rescue Service of WA
Appliance type – Urban Pumper
Fleet number – UP01
Cab Chassis – Scania P310
Body Builder – South West Fire
Registration – 1QBN636

This is the first of a new series of Urban Pumpers to serve in WA. It is a continuation of the designs used in recent years for Medium and Heavy Pumpers.

DFES states: “UP Series appliance design is a continuous improvement upgrade to the Heavy Pump appliance series first
commissioned in 2008.
The UP series development process incorporates the commissioning by Fleet and Equipment Services of FESA
generated drawings and specifications, proto type manufacture under direction, and full scale manufacturing. This
process was adapted in recognition of the variations experienced across the preceding MP and HP series where the
contracted manufacturer directed the appliance build process.
The process provides for standardisation across the series irrespective of manufacturers (provided capability has
been demonstrated) and has resulted in reduced delivery timelines.”

This build was completed by South West Fire in Collie and delivered new to Midland Fire Station.
