Australian fire agencies operate a large number of aircraft which they own, lease or contract. The majority of aircraft in Australia are used on a seasonal or as-needed contract basis.
In the early 2000’s, the National Aerial Firefighting Centre (NAFC) was formed to assist the individual agencies in the provision of aircraft for bush firefighting. This aids with coordination of supply and standards across the country – more information can be found on their website NAFC.org.au
